Dry skin is not usually a serious health problem, but it can cause serious complications, such as chronic eczema, secondary bacterial infection (redness, swelling…), which may require antibiotics. In this case it is advisable to consult a doctor.
However, dry skin can usually be treated with home remedies and even prevented by taking preventive measures. Here are some remedies for dry skin that are effective if practiced consistently:
1. Drink water and infusions to hydrate from within.
2. Limit yourself to a daily bath or shower of 5-10 minutes. If we bathe for longer, we can lose most of the fatty layer of the skin and cause it to lose moisture. Use warm water instead of hot water, which can remove natural oils.
3. Minimize the use of soaps; if necessary, choose moisturizing preparations or use soap-free cleansers. Avoid deodorant soaps, scented soaps, and products with alcohol, which can remove natural oils.
